They start talking, he flirts with her; he starts to comment on her eyes and what colour they are and we see them changing from a dull shade to an emerald green which then change back. Narrative

The narrative is about a robot named Wall-E who is living on earth, he is the only functioning machine left of his kind, he was made and programmed to clean up the rubbish on the earth made by humans.

The Opening

The movie opens with shots of outer space, planets, stars, galaxies. The earth comes into shot; it looks decidedly unpleasant from space, more brown than green and blue. However the shapes of the continents are unmistakable. The camera zooms in towards North America past an impossible amount of space junk. The first 2 minutes of the opening uses a piece of music from an early 1950’s musical, it’s a happy upbeat piece in contrast to the sad state of the planet which is shown to be lifeless, full of rubbish left by human activity. The music fades leaving a desolate whistling wind; the camera angle is a bird’s eye view of various piles of rubbish. Wall-E comes in to shot speeding past with the same piece of music now echoing from the last scene. The camera follows Wall-E; the little unassuming robot zooms about doing its programmed job, which seems to entail gathering rubbish and crushing it into neat cubes which can be stacked. The only sign of biological life is a cockroach which appears to be a companion of the robot.

Diegetic

Diegetic sounds are of whistling wind, Wall-E’s movement and a transition of the opening title music alternating from diegetic to non-diegetic.

Non Diegetic

Non-diegetic sounds are of the 1950’s musical song.

Narrative

The narrative is that Ocean (Clooney) is a experienced thief, he chooses to rob a casino knowing full well that it is a very difficult task ahead but not impossible. Location

The movie is set in Las Vegas where Ocean intends to rob a casino owned by Benedict.

The Opening

The opening title begins with showing a room with an empty chair and George Clooney comes and sits down, a mid-shot angle is taken and we can hear he is being asked questions, we find out George Clooney’s characters name is Daniel Ocean. Next we learn that Ocean is in jail and there is a trial taking place to see if he will be released. We still don’t know what crime he has committed. And then at 1 minute and 36 seconds into the opening, music plays over the scene, in the style of representing something deceitful. Then he is asked ‘what will you do if you get out’? Then an extreme close up is taken of his face only with the music still going on. The next scene shows us he is being escorted out with a jail guard. We then see him walking for another 5 seconds and the scene cuts to seeing only his hand at an extreme close-up. He is holding an envelope with a wedding ring inside which he takes out, at this point the camera moves slowly up to his face, while the camera is moving we see him dressed in a suit. The camera then cuts to a medium shot showing the rest of him wearing a suit while he is quite happy look at the ring.

Also in this movie everyone has one question for Ocean ‘your wife looks like Julia Roberts?’ The director made Roberts character quite a challenge because she had to act as if she wasn’t Julia Roberts.
