Narrative
The narrative is about a family, the Banks’ who are in need of a new nanny. The two children of the family make up a new advertisement to be published, with there own specification of what a nanny should be. But, the father disapproves of the advertisement and rips it up and throws it in the fire place. However what he didn’t know was the advertisement he ripped up, whether destroyed or not, can still reach Mary Poppins.
The Opening
The opening shows us London and the camera slowly moves to show us all of London from a birds eye view, of rooftops. While the camera is moving the opening titles start to appear in bright yellow, then we see Mary Poppins floating on a cloud with her carpet bag and her umbrella. The next scene goes to the park where we meet a man, represented as an over exaggerated, enthusiastic cockney ‘Jack of all Trades’ Bert who takes us to see the Banks family.
Narrative Enigma
The narrative enigma is, will the father and mother spend more time with their children and do fun activities.
Diegetic
The diegetic sounds are of Bert playing the one man show instruments.
Non Diegetic
The non diegetic sounds are of the music in the beginning and throughout the movie.
