Narrative
Narrative is about a Muslim boy who lives in the slums and manages to win a million rupees.
The Opening
The opening shows a adolescent boy who looks scared, the camera is from the view point of an over the shoulder shot, smoke is being blown in his face then a reverse over the shoulder shot is taken showing a fat man smoking. The back ground light is yellow which we see him blowing smoke at the boy and also slaps him, at which point the scene goes black and text comes up which says ‘Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million rupees how did he do it? The background music is the clock ticking theme from who wants to be a millionaire, the four options shown are A: he cheated B: he’s lucky C: he’s a genius or D: it is written. Next the scene is showing a bird’s eye view shot of Indian money being thrown on the floor, it goes back to a black scene which then comes to a games show about to begin and you can see the boy sitting nervously in front of a presenter of the Indian version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’.
Narrative Enigma
The narrative enigma in this film is how Jamal Malik manages to win 20 million dollars and will he ever find Latika (the love of his life) again.
Diegetic
The diegetic sound is of the orphans singing for money.
Non Diegetic
The non diegetic sound is of the music that is at the end of the movie
